AfterSchool no.05
This month’s AfterSchool will focus on Dear Body of Water, a poetic water-harvesting project using both digital and mail-art participation to collectively address bodies of water as fellow beings on this Earth and to cultivate care for watersheds. Postcards will be available for free but we’ll also be making our own as we talk and think about springs, aquifers, watersheds, and water.
Thursday Feb 6th, 2025. 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

“The idea for Dear Body of Water grew out of drought in the American West from a depleting body of water called Great Salt Lake (the subject of Gretchen E. Henderson’s book, Life in the Tar Seeps: A Spiraling Ecology from a Dying Sea, and film “Toward a Bird’s Eye View”: the backdrop for this website). Great Salt Lake is entangled with watersheds throughout the West, including the Colorado River, whose reach extends into the biodiverse Sonoran Desert.” Dear Body of Water
AfterSchool is a public discussion series for critical conversations beyond the university. We invite anyone interested in exploring concepts with a spirit of open engagement. Coordinated by the Bureau for Experimental Ethnography, sessions will include a brief presentation as an opening for discussion. Short readings will be circulated in advance. Sessions will conclude with an “after” assignment meant to sustain our inquiry through engagement with the world.
